February 2011 - New gigs, new reviews

Our gigs in January went great so thanks to everyone who came down to see us. Thanks to Mum Locked In Castle for a fantastic time in Scarborough and Mae's Lost Empire for a superb time in Sheffield. Quite possibly the most fun we've had at a gig in our home town.

We've had a couple of new reviews this month. First up is the Leeds based free newspaper Hyde Park Heat who gave us a fine and uplifting review (despite us being based in Sheffield). It's printed so here's a snippet.

"They have a great online presence across multiple platforms, which drew me into their world, led me to listen to their songs for longer, and in turn made me like them more as some of their songs are growers rather than showers. I have faith that these lot would put on a good show, I like their vibe a lot."

Second was an excellent review of our last EP 100th Idiot at http://www.tastyzine.co.uk.

"The tracks featuring nice time changes and maintaining a tautness that even signed bands often can’t be bothered with. ‘Brilliant Sun’ is a fine example of this – constantly driving towards an inevitable finale but twisting and turning on its way."

More gigs coming within the next few months. More details to come as we have them but for new check out our upcoming shows page.

February 2010 - A new lineup, a free album and some gigs

After a few months off Gretanova are back with a new lineup. Founding members vocalist Charlie Hill and bassists Andy Glynn have left for greater things. Dunstan Blay moved to London to practice law leaving a Guitarist position empty.

Stepping up to replace them are Sheffield local and Vocalist/Keys player Ben Moorhouse, multi bandist Guitarist Matt Churchard and southern type and Guitarist Mark Vincent. With Lee switching, to a much vicious sounding Bass, Gretanova have an even harsher edge than previous lineup. After a few months practising we've got a couple of gigs lined up in Sheffield (at West Street Live) and Leeds (The Primrose @ Meanwood Rd.).

Our last EP "Your Children Are Not Special" is also now available to freely download from our website http://www.gretanova.com/. So download it while it's up!

April 2009 - Tattoo Jamming and the Northern Exposure

Gretanova have been chosen to play the fantastic Tattoo Jam 2009 in Doncaster.

"Tattoo Jam 2009 will be the biggest Tattoo convention in the UK! With over 200 working artists, a day specifically for people working within the tattoo industry (ARTIST friDAY), seminars, Tattoo Masters’ Ball, trade stands, vendors, live entertainment, awards and a few other special treats, it will be one extraordinary weekend…"

The event is at Doncaster Racecourse in the weekend of 7th to 9th August. We're playing on Friday 7th at 8ish.

We're playing Rios Leeds alongside the fantastic ska/reggae/indie band "The Talks" on Friday 24 April. They have played alongside the likes on Rancid, The King Blues and The Specials.

Get down early as there's for bands on. Tickets £5 on the door.

February 2009 - Gretanova, Northern Exposure and some large men

Gretanova are taking part in Leeds Rios "Northern Exposure" along with fantastic alt.Metal/Hardcore outfit "Mum Locked in Castle" (who really deserve to be seen). Gig is taking place on Friday 24th April. Everyone should try to attend.

We were approached in January by Leeds based Rugby team "Bramley Buffaloes" to allow use of our track "Blacklight" on one of their highlight packages. You can view their press-release here which contains a link to the video. http://bramleybuffaloes.wordpress.com/2009/01/27/buffaloes-back-on-youtube/

A couple of other gigs are coming up...

October 2008 - Gretanova release their long awaiting E.P.

October 2008 and Gretanova finally finish "Your Children are not special...". Featuring 5 1/2 tracks of huge-hooked, melodic, alternative/punk-rock-fuelled classics such "Brilliant Sun" & "Blacklight" to the country tinged "The Man". Also included are sentimental shimmery ballads "Doll" and the literally massive "Drink It, Sweetheart".

The reviews have been favourable. Some say it is, without a doubt, the "greatest debut record of all time". Free demo copies we're given away at recent gigs.

They will be following this up with several appearances around the Yorkshire area.

"Your Children Are Not Special" is available from several places on the net (search). See http://www.gretanova.com for more details.
